ESP & TSC behaviour

  • Hi guys,

I hope you do not mind that I am writing in english since I believe you would not appreciated my german either. ;)
Anyway I am a newbie here on this forum and have just completed my first 2000km with my Fiat Freemont FWD and a 140hpdiesel. I really enjoy the car and many of its practical capabilities and its comfort. However there are a few things that bother me and one is the ESP and antispinn function. I feel that the behaviour of the system is that it is very late to correctthe behaviour of the car. This is compared to my other car that is a BMW 5-serie where both antispinn and ESP corrects much earlier and in a nice and gentle way. When I provoke the systems on a icy/snowy road on the Freemont I am not impressed.

Is there anybody with similar experience and does anybody know if there will be some updates of the system?

    Best regards
    Henrik

  • Hi,

I am only able to compare the system with my Skoda Octavia 2.
What i actually did realize, if you turn to fast on icy ground, actually nothing seems to happen for a very long time. The Freemont is still going straight ahead, or, the radius is much bigger than expected.
I think the reason for this is the much greater weight of the car.

You can never cheat physics in any way.

If you tell me, that the X5 is doing a better job, I can not argue against. It may be as you stated.
If this is the case, I would think that perhaps BMW did something more finetuning on ESP. For 10000-15000€ price difference, it seems ok.

If you whant to have some thrill, go to a parking place, do some sharp turns with the freemont, and switch ESP off. Try the same turns again 8o

  • And after that, try it with a four-wheeler

  • Yes - of course there is price difference and physics are physics, no doubt about that. However I just noticed such difference from the BMW and as well my Alfa 156 that I recently sold. From my point of view I would appreiceate the system to grip in a bit earlier and/or be more sensitive. I guess this is an all american system and Fiat has no influence so far on it??

  • For the engine as also the gearbox and chassis are from Fiat, I don't think so.
But I also do think, that Fiat is not going to change the behaviour.

  • OK I am new to this and should be humble but I doubt that Fiat is replacing the control system of the vehicle just for that they are changing the engine. My guess is that the ECU for the diesel is FIAT but the rest I would assume to be Dodge.

Merry Christmas to all of you!

  • As far as i know the complete Engine is made by FPT (Fiat Power Train).Fiat´s own engine manufacturer.
The old Diesel-Engine from the Journey was from Volkswagen.
